From the Location of the event, I would say that they would be Oohenonpa (Two Kettle), Itazipco (Sans Arcs) and the Sihasapa (Blackfeet) who occupied this area, Not everyone was at Kill Deer. The 1863 Massacre at White stone had just happened the year before many of the Yankonais were at the prisionor of war camp at Crow Creek. The Lakota were just starting to get involved into the fights, many of the Lakota did not join the other bands in these first battles. I would say they are Lakota, the Arikara were ran north by 1823.

there is a book written about George Bent that may have information on the incident you mentioned sara. I am not sure about the title, but his father or uncle was the one that built Bent's Fort. Just tyope his name into google search.
